Negroni Ice Shapes
A Negroni is a classic cocktail to enjoy before a meal. Some say it is THE perfect cocktail. It is a sophisticated aperitif that whets the appetite and excites the palette.
A Negroni features equal parts gin, Campari and sweet vermouth. It’s easy to put together; with no special barware needed, and the result is a vibrant and impressive drink.
The Negroni is loved by Italians, but the drink has universal appeal and is enjoying a renaissance all over the world.
The History Of The Negroni
There are several versions of how and who invented the Negroni. We like the story that dates back to 1919 at Caffe Casoni in Florence. Count Camillo Negroni asked the bartender to make his favourite cocktail - the Americano - only stronger. Legend has it that the bartender replaced the soda water with gin.
How To Make A Negroni
Unlike the history of the Negroni, the cocktail’s ingredients and proportions are not up for debate. The Negroni is simple, easy to mix and typically is served on the rocks.
You will need equal parts dry gin, sweet vermouth and Campari. Add your DrinksPlinks Statement Hexagon to an Old Fashioned or Rocks glass, add the spirits and stir well to chill. Gently squeeze an orange twist or fresh slice of orange over the glass to release the citrus oil, then add it as the garnish.
The beauty of a Negroni is that it is bitter, sweet, dry and refreshing all at once. The drink is a summer mainstay and while it is typically served before dinner, there is never really a bad time to whip one up!
Ready to Party
If you have friends coming over for afternoon drinks or dinner, a pitcher of Negroni will definitely get the party started. To make a big batch, stick to the same proportions of each spirit. Combine the alcohol in a jug and refrigerate until needed. Then add DrinksPlinks Statement hexagons to the jug, and garnish just before serving. Pour into Old Fashioned or Rocks glasses, add a fresh ice shape to each glass and a twist of orange.
